To better support pest management professionals (PMPs) and their businesses, Syngenta has hired Craig Valentine as the newest member of its Professional Pest Management (PPM) territory manager team. His territory includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and western Pennsylvania.
Valentine brings more than seven years of experience in the pest management and agriculture industries. He was mostly recently an agriculture representative at AMVAC Chemical Corp., from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that position, he spent five years with Dow AgroSciences across marketing and sales divisions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Ball State University.
“We are excited to expand our Syngenta territory manager team with Craig on board,” says Dave Ravel, head of sales for turf, ornamental and PPM at Syngenta in North America. “With an extensive sales and marketing background, he’ll be able to effectively partner with PMPs and guide them through their pest problems.”
Valentine lives in Fishers, Ind., with his wife and their three children.

On Feb. 1, Columbia, S.C.-based Modern Exterminating completed the purchase of Carolina Pest Control, Irmo, S.C.
Once owned by the Mungo family, the 30-year-old Carolina Pest Control exclusively did termite pretreatments for Mungo Homes at one time, then continued to grow and expand in the pest control industry.
“We feel grateful for the opportunity to acquire such a great company. Our family has been in business for over 60 years, and we plan to continue to grow in the Midlands,” says Glenn Matthews, third-generation owner and president of Modern Exterminating. “Expanding our company allows us to grow in service to our customers, create more jobs in our community, and continue to give back. This has been the foundation of what Modern Exterminating was built on, and that will never change. We look forward to this next chapter.”
This is the second company purchase for Modern Exterminating in the past three months.
Founded in 1955, Modern Exterminating currently employs 34 employees. It recently expanded its service area beyond the Midlands to include Orangeburg, Sumter, and Aiken, S.C. In the past year, the company was recognized as the first to identify an infestation of the “Super-Termite” in the history of Lexington County.

Vince Romao has joined Milwaukee, Wis.-based rodent control product manufacturer Liphatech as Western District sales manager. His territory includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. He resides in Los Angeles, Calif.
In addition, Liphatech’s Midwest District sales manager, Matthew Elderbrook, now includes Canada in his service area. With this added responsibility, Kentucky and Ohio have been moved to the Mid-Atlantic territory, managed by Tom Belcher.
“Liphatech continually searches for ways to best meet the needs of our distributors and PMPs, both in the U.S. and Canada,” says Charlie Passantino, business director of Liphatech’s pest management division. “Balancing our experienced team’s knowledge and availability is important to us and our customers.”

The National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA’s) 31st annual Legislative Day conference will take place Feb. 24-26 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. The new year commences the 116th Congress, as well as the official countdown to the 2020 elections, and there is no better time to participate in Legislative Day. With the midterm elections wrapped up, this is a perfect opportunity to begin meeting new legislators and reinforcing relationships with those heading back to D.C. for another term.
This conference is designed to bring together pest management professionals (PMPs) to advocate for legislative issues that are important to our industry. Each year, the NPMA works tirelessly to ensure that our collective voice is heard and represented across the country. We are committed to supporting our mission of protecting public health and pursuing public policy efforts that advance the work performed by our members.
Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) spoke at last year’s Headquarters on the Hill luncheon. “Make your voices heard,” he told those who stopped by for a break between their appointments on Capitol Hill. “Because if we can’t get things that don’t make the front page passed, like pesticide registration, it truly has an impact on what you do on a daily basis and the services that you provide to us.” PHOTO: DIANE SOFRANEC
Thanks to your continued support, the NPMA has been able to successfully advocate for the industry before Congress. At Legislative Day, your voice will be the most important one in the room, because you help the NPMA do what it does best: champion the industry. Above all, you vote for those in office, so they know they need to listen. Your participation and support not only amplify our work as an association but also will make an impact on which legislation Congress passes. Although a phone call or an email certainly can be important, there is nothing more impactful than a face-to-face interaction with your senator or Congress person. With your industry knowledge and experience, your advocacy has the power to affect your communities and Congress’ legislative agenda. We must show Congress how important our issues are — and that all begins and ends with you.
