Orlando, Fla.-based Massey Services has purchased Island Pest Control, one of the largest, locally owned pest control companies on Hilton Head Island, S.C. Terms were not disclosed.

Massey first expanded to South Carolina in 2015 with the purchase of  Wolf Pest Control, and now has service centers in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Hilton Head.

“With over 40 years in the business, Island Pest Control has established a strong customer base and shares our same commitment to total customer satisfaction,” Chairman and CEO Harvey Massey said in a press release. Massey is a Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer (Class of 2008).

Born and raised in Melville, La., Massey founded the company in 1985. He is a 56-year veteran of the pest management industry. Massey Services provides service to over 600,000 customers throughout Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

The Island Pest Control purchase marks the company’s third acquisition of 2020 so far, the second in South Carolina. In February, Massey Services announced the acquisition of Ambush Termite & Pest Control, based in Elgin, S.C., which provides pest control and termite services to the Columbia, S.C. area. Also in February, Massey Services acquired Resolve Pest Control, based in Baton Rouge, La.

Most recently, the company purchased Insight Pest Solutions of South Florida. It was Massey Services’ second acquisition of Insight Pest Solutions. In 2017, Massey purchased locations in Raleigh, N.C., Charlotte, N.C., and Charleston, S.C.

In other Massey Services news, the Orlando, Fla.-based company has entered a strategic partnership with BioAssured, creators of the BioAssured Process and BioAssured Certification. Because Massey serves more than 650,000 customers in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Oklahoma, it can provide the firm, which was founded in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the ability to rapidly scale and deploy its building certification program.

According to a news release:

BioAssured was developed by three Orlando entrepreneurs who saw the need for a national “Gold Standard of Clean,” providing consumers with consistency and confidence across all industries and markets.

Massey Service technicians are trained and certified to apply a two-step electrostatic treatment to all BioAssured buildings. The two-step treatment starts with the application of a cleaner and disinfectant (listed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s schedule N), which has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV2 or human coronavirus. Then a non-leaching, durable biostatic finish is applied, using nano-technology to bond and protect the surface against microorganisms such as mold, mildew, and bacteria for a minimum of 30 days.

“This unique process provides a significant advantage for our customers by reducing the cost and disruption with on-going disinfection of surfaces,” says Tony Massey, president of Massey Services.

“All BioAssured Buildings will be required to maintain reapplication treatments every 30 days with randomized quality checks and assessments. Massey’s dedication to excellence made them a clear choice for a partner to offer our proprietary process and our BioAssured Certification,” says Dr. Wes Naylor, COO of BioAssured.

The BioAssured multi-layered process was developed in collaboration with Orlando-based Healthe, the creators of the patented line of Cleanse Far-UVC products. The process includes scientific assessment of each location with a suite of recommendations that include a two-step cleaning and disinfection process in combination with the deployment of Far-UVC technology.

BioAssured clients receive expert recommendations for the selection of Healthe Far-UVC products like the Cleanse Downlight, which can inactivate harmful pathogens with 222-nanometer ultraviolet light, and the Cleanse Troffer, which combines HEPA-Carbon activated filtration with UV sanitization.

Massey Services’ Orlando headquarters was the first building in the United States to earn a BioAssured Certification.
