The New England Pest Management Association (NEPMA) will host Wood Destroying Insects (WDI) Recertification Training on Dec. 8 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Marlborough, Mass.
NEPMA has developed a professional, pest management industry-specific training and registration program for conducting inspections and recommending treatment options for WDI. This program represents the association’s formal training and registration program and is open to all pest management professionals and other real estate inspection professionals interested in being added to the NEPMA WDI Registry.
Once added, you can tell customers about your credential and NEPMA promotes it as follows:
- To get on the WDI Registry: attend the 1.5-day, in-person WDI Registry Certification Class in January (see more information below).
- To stay on the Registry: attend a half-day recertification class every three years (this event).
- If you’ve let your certification lapse, attend a recertification class (this event) to reinstate it.
- To check your certification status, view the NEPMA WDI Registry.
Topics for the recertification include:
- Identification, biology, habits, conducive conditions and best baiting techniques to control the Eastern subterranean termite (Reticulitermes flavipes).
- Inspection tips and identification of powderpost beetles and other WDI in New England.
- A look at controls as to when, where and why fumigation might be the best choice, from complete tenting of structures to container fumigation of items of value.
- Advantages and limitations of fumigants vs. other control methods/materials.
Speakers at the event:
- Mike Gelhaus is a graduate of The Ohio State University. He has been in the industry for over 30 years and is the northeast senior account manager for Corteva AgriSciences (formerly Dow AgroSciences).
- Kevin Moran, BCE, is a graduate of UMass Amherst and a 40-year veteran of the pest management industry. He is FORSHAW’s technical sales and training manager, based in Canton, Mass.
