One pest that has been a constant battle for the PMP for decades isn’t going away anytime soon: the cockroach. We must always think outside the box about them — not only about the ubiquitous German cockroach (Blattella germanica), but other species that are on the rise in certain markets, such as Periplaneta americana, Blatta orientalis and Blatta lateralis (American, Oriental and Turkestan cockroaches, respectively).
After a thorough cockroach job, our “kills” may cover the shelves or floors. Customers tend to clean up these areas after our initial treatment — thus washing away our product and making our baits less palatable. In some cases, the bait may become completely useless, undermining our efforts. Some tips to help with cockroach jobs include:
- Use durable rodent/mouse stations for your baits.
- Try a monitoring glue board as a “cockroach bait station.”
- In heavy infestations, use rat-sized glue boards with cockroach bait in the middle.
- For chemical applications, be sure to dust or treat wall voids and other areas that cannot be easily cleaned or reached by your customers.
