Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance insect. In fact, they often can be carriers of diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue, Zika virus and more.

Although mosquitoes are more likely to be a problem in customers’ yards than inside homes, be prepared to advise customers on how to prevent them from coming indoors. Patching gaps in screens and sealing exterior doors is a first step to preventing entry. As a rule of thumb, if sunlight comes through gaps surrounding exterior openings, the openings have not been properly sealed.

When treating outdoor spaces, let customers know that eliminating standing water is the first step to mosquito control, along with treating water holding areas and containers. Mosquitoes will congregate in areas of high humidity and shade during the day, so focus on these areas after treating standing water for control of adults.
