The professional pest management industry has expanded from pest mitigation to become more established as guardians of public health and safety. When many of us were asked to protect our customers from an “invisible pest” during the pandemic, we developed cleaning and safety protocols, and applied products we had never purchased in the past. While there have been many trials and tribulations, the insights gained from recent years have taught us the importance of incorporating deep-cleaning procedures into our pest prevention programs.
Take the common pests we deal with daily, like rodents, cockroaches and flies. Each is distinctly different in makeup, but all three thrive in unclean conditions — and leave areas they occupy unsanitary. When discussing fly control procedures, then, include your cleaning and disinfecting protocols for your customers. This is a great opportunity for generating new revenue, and more importantly, you are making your job easier to control pest problems when they occur. By cleaning and disinfecting work areas, storage areas and drain systems, you’re eliminating fly harborage areas and ultimately helping prevent future breeding sites.
