The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is accepting donations to help those affected by the Maui, Hawaii, wildfires.
According to the news release, the NPMA “extends its deepest sympathies and heartfelt solidarity to the people of Hawaii in the wake of the catastrophic Maui wildfires. Our thoughts are with those affected by this devastating event, and we stand united with the community during this challenging time.”
Donations can be made to those in need through the Hawai’i Community Foundation for the Maui Strong Fund.
NPMA has reached out to its members in Hawaii along with the Hawaii Pest Control Association.
“Once NPMA has a good sense of conditions on the ground and how the pest control industry can be most impactful, NPMA will be sharing additional information on how members can best assist those in need ahead of PestWorld 2023,” the association said in the news release. “There is currently no impact to PestWorld 2023, or its affiliated events. NPMA will continue to monitor the situation, and updates will be provided accordingly.”

Last week, the NPMA worked alongside the Hawaii Pest Control Association (HPCA) to address a proposed travel restriction into West Maui that would have potentially prohibited pest management professionals from working on that side of the island.
On Aug. 14, the County of Maui proposed a placard system that would require anyone to provide proof of employment and/or residence in West Maui to travel to that side of the island. On Aug. 15, NPMA and HPCA sent letters to the mayor of Maui, the administrator of the Maui emergency management services and the governor’s representative on the island. On the night of Aug. 15, the governor released a statement allowing for travel to resume normally with a curfew at 10 p.m.
