Rose Pest Solutions, based in Chicago, Ill., was honored with a 2021 Centennial Business Award by the Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS).
“Rose Pest Solutions’ history is impressive,” said William Furry, ISHS executive director. “Rose is America’s oldest, first-documented pest control company, rich in history of protecting health in the Prairie State. We are honored to be honoring them.”
Founded in 1860 by Solomon Rose, PMP Hall of Famer (Class of 2001), the company was originally known as Rose’s Rat Exterminator Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The company was sold by Daniel Rose to C. Norman Dold, who managed it until the 70s. From there, son Robert J. Dold steered the company forward, buying several other smaller pest companies. Dold and his wife Judy are PMP Hall of Famers (Class of 2002) and have both served as president for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA).
Along with its sister company, Franklin Pest Solutions, Rose offers pest control to customers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The Chicago franchise was Rose’s headquarters for decades when the corporation had locations coast to coast.
“Rose and Franklin are proud to help communities with innovative pest control solutions,” said Bob Dold, current president of the Chicago, Ill.-based Rose Pest Solutions. “We look forward to continuing to be bug and rodent heroes for decades to come.”
Since 1984, the ISHS has recognized Illinois corporations doing business in Illinois for 100 years or more. To date, more than 1,400 Illinois companies and not-for-profits have reached the centennial milestone and received the Centennial Business Award.
Rose Pest Solutions and other 2021 ISHS Centennial Business Award recipients will be celebrated at a public reception on September 18, 2021 in Springfield, Ill.
