In many cases, reaching stinging insects can be more dangerous than the treatment itself. Stinging insects often create nests out of sight, meaning elevated spaces or tight access areas for your technicians. Stinging insect jobs aren’t complex, but they may require tools that often are not used daily.
Because of this, ladder safety education should be a key part of your yearly training with technicians. Whether they are veterans or rookies, review proper placement and three-point climbing technique with your team every spring. Discussing alternative methods to ladders also leads to good training opportunities, reducing the fall risks and, in some cases, providing more productive treatments.
Pole applicators have come a long way in recent years, allowing you to apply dusts or aerosols to elevated sites without pulling out the big ladder. Having such training early and often will reduce workplace injuries, while instilling a safety-first work environment.
