Using resin strips to treat bed bugs

Pest management professionals often are confronted with bed bug-infested electronic devices of residential customers. Treating these devices is challenging for a number of reasons, including the desire for them to be chemical-free at the end of the treatment, achieving control in difficult-to-access harborages, and concern for the safe treatment of sensitive electronic devices.

Dichlorvos-impregnated resin strips provide continuous release of the active ingredient, which moves as a vapor in the confined treatment space. Think of the strips as releasing a vapor that is quickly degraded in the environment, but in the interim, it travels by air in the confined space to contact and kill bed bugs.

Bed bug-infested devices may be placed in a plastic bag, container or room, which is then treated with the strips for a minimum of seven days. At the end of the treatment time, the items must be aired out for at least two hours before being returned to use. Recent cooperative research with Hewlett Packard has confirmed that electronic devices can be safely treated with dichlorvos-impregnated resin strips.
