Austin, Texas-based Veseris, a distributor of pest control, turf, and public health products has expanded into the turf and ornamental (T&O) and pool supply markets following the acquisition of the The Tessman Co. and The Lynde Co., sibling companies based in St. Paul, Minn.

“Partnering with Tessman and Lynde is a natural next step for Veseris,” said Ken Bradley, CEO of Veseris. “They bring decades of expertise and strong customer and vendor relationships. We also feel a strong cultural alignment with Terry and his team and are excited to welcome them into the Veseris family. This move allows us to deliver more products, expertise and innovative solutions to our growing customer base.”

The Tessman Co. has been a trusted wholesale distributor in the T&O industry, serving lawn care and landscape professionals, nurseries, greenhouses, golf courses, municipalities and other customers. Similarly, The Lynde Co. is a wholesale distributor serving pool and spa industry professionals. Both companies will continue to operate as they have, with day-to-day operations remaining business as usual during the transition.

“Joining Veseris is an incredible opportunity for Tessman and Lynde,“ said Terry Reiten, president of The Tessman Co. and The Lynde Co. “With Veseris’ resources and complementary product offering, we can better serve our customers while maintaining the special relationships that have been key to our success. FieldRoutes: Convenience Payments

IMAGE: FIELDROUTES, A SERVICETITAN BRAND

Paying a predictable amount for pest control services regularly isn’t just for Zoomers. It’s for Boomers, too — and everyone in between.

FieldRoutes’ Convenience Payments, a newly released software feature, is a flexible way for pest control company customers to pre-pay a standard amount on a preferred frequency and have the invoiced charge for each service automatically deducted from the balance, similar to a mortgage escrow account or a monthly streaming bill.

“That’s been something we’ve all been clamoring for,” says Aaron Curtis, customer experience officer for Alta Pest Control. “It’s exciting to see that’s here.”

While the feature might find favor with Generation Z home and business owners, it’s also serving a world that is becoming more digital- and mobile-centric by the moment.

Regardless of service frequency, a recurring payment plan makes services more accessible and affordable for consumers. Automated payment scheduling offers a set-and-forget convenience for customers, ensuring invoices are paid on time.

While a customer benefits from payment options that fit their preferences, the pest control company wins, too. A company can boost residential sales and increase retention by introducing payment plans that make services more affordable for the consumer.

Because the regular, recurring charges make it easier for pest control customers to budget for services, a company could sell more services per customer and experience fewer cancellations.

The pre-service payment options also reduce risk and simplify cash management for companies collecting payment before service.

Convenience Payments are another way FieldRoutes makes every transaction as frictionless as possible.

Set 6 financial goals for 2025

While excellent service and effective pest control are vital, strong financial management is the backbone of any successful pest control company.

Here’s how to budget effectively and secure your financial future:

1. Know your numbers

  • Keep detailed records. Meticulous tracking of income and expenses is non-negotiable. Use a program like QuickBooks and reporting plug-in software to categorize and analyze expenses such as labor, materials, marketing and insurance, and monitor cash flow.
  • Use key performance indicators (KPIs). Identify and track essential metrics, such as:
    • Customer acquisition cost (CAC). How much does it cost to gain a new customer?
    • Customer lifetime value (CLTV). What is the total revenue generated from a typical customer in terms of regarding their relationship with your company?
    • Average service value. What is the average revenue generated per service stop?
    • Technician productivity. How many stops can a technician complete in a day? In a week?
  • Review your prices. Do this routinely to ensure profitability. Factor in costs, competition and perceived value of your services. Consider making price increases a part of your monthly closeout process on the anniversary date of customers signing up with you.

2. Budget for growth

  • Forecast spending. Project future revenue and expenses based on historical data, market trends and growth projections. This includes anticipating fluctuations in labor costs, such as seasonal needs or overtime, and insurance premiums.
  • Allocate resources wisely. Prioritize spending based on your goals. Invest in areas that drive growth, such as marketing, technology and employee training, while controlling overhead costs.
  • Create contingency plans. Prepare for unexpected expenses, such as equipment repairs, economic downturns and spikes in insurance claims, by maintaining a financial cushion.

3. Expand funding

  • Reinvest profits. Allocate a portion of profits back into the business to fuel expansion.
  • Secure financing. Explore options such as:
    • Small business loans. Traditional bank loans are for equipment purchases, working capital or expansion.
    • Lines of credit. Access funds as needed for short-term expenses or opportunities.
    • Equipment financing. Lease or finance essential equipment to preserve capital.

4. Optimize cash flow

  • Streamline billing and collections processes. Monthly billing strategies include customer credit card and automated clearing house (ACH) collections.
  • Enhance inventory management. Avoid overstocking by accurately forecasting demand and maintaining accurate inventory counts. Use purchasing to help reduce tax liabilities when doing tax planning.
  • Negotiate with suppliers. Secure favorable pricing and payment terms with vendors.

5. Control costs

  • Improve labor costs. Optimize technician routes to minimize travel time and maximize productivity. Consider implementing performance-based incentives to boost efficiency.
  • Improve insurance costs. Review your insurance policies to ensure you have adequate coverage at the best price. Implement safety protocols and training to minimize risks and potential claims.

6. Gain financial expertise

  • Consult professionals. Seek advice from accountants and financial advisors for tax planning, investment strategies and financial forecasting.
  • Stay informed. Keep abreast of industry trends, economic conditions and regulatory changes that may impact your business.

By implementing sound financial practices and paying close attention to key cost factors like labor and insurance, you can ensure your pest control company has the resources to achieve sustainable growth and long-term success.

The ins and outs of BASF’s new quick release insecticide, Ridesco WG

PMP Editor-in-Chief Heather Gooch chats with Dr. Freder Medina of BASF about the company’s new Ridesco WG Insecticide, which will be available in January 2025. Dr. Medina shares more about the quickHYPENrelease formulation, which has two active ingredients, dinotefuran and alpha-cypermethrin.

Transcription:

Heather Gooch: I’m Heather Gooch, editor-in-chief of Pest Management Professional magazine, and I’m here today with Dr. Freder Medina, the technical market manager of BASF. Dr Medina, would you tell us a little bit about what you guys are showcasing this year at PestWorld at BASF?

Dr. Freder Medina: We’re very excited because we have a new product that is called Ridesco WG. And the main thing about this product, we’re so excited, because it’s a fast kill product. So it allows you to reduce the population of any pest, any label pest, really fast. And it gives you that ability because it has two modes of action, two different type of (active ingredients) with different physiological pathways. They work better together. And not only that, the formulation is a dry formulation. So it’s easy to use, easy to mix. It has one rate. So if you think about a company with multiple branches. It’s easy to train your guys because you only have one rate on the product.

HG: So Dr. Medina, I know that you guys have a very strong Alpine product line for German cockroaches and so forth. But how does Ridesco fit in or complement that existing line of product that you have?

Dr. Medina: Great question, Heather. And one of the things is, everybody knows Alpine WG works really well for German cockroaches, and one of the benefits of the product is that it’s non repellent. So we want you to keep using the non repellent products for German cockroach control, for example, because it’s likely that you’re going to use it in combination with baits. So Ridesco is not ideal to use when you’re targeting German cockroaches, because then you will not be able to use baits because the product of the repellency properties of the product. Now there are other situations where you would definitely use Ridesco. If you have a clean out situation, not necessarily in a commercial kitchen, but in a residence or any other commercial place. You want to target, and you want to target large cockroach populations, like American cockroach like smoky brown cockroaches. Those are the situations where you would succeed using Ridesco. So Ridesco will give you that ability for one time services, for first time services, where the population of the pest is at a level that the homeowners or the property owners cannot tolerate any longer, and they want quick results. Fast results. That’s where Ridesco will fit in.

Growable Ventures acquired Obex Pest Defense, a Denver, Colo.-based pest control company founded in 2020 by Sean Licalzi. This move allows Growable Ventures to expand its footprint in the pest control industry and increase its portfolio of successful pest control companies.

Obex Pest Defense has built a customer base spanning from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs. “We are really excited to take over Obex Pest Defense,” said Airhart. “When we started Aruza, we had a clear vision for what that company would achieve, and we were able to deliver on it quicker than expected. There was so much we couldn’t do with Aruza that Jordan and I are very excited to do with Obex.”

Sean Licalzi, founder of Obex Pest Defense, expressed his confidence in Growable Ventures as the successor for his company.

“Selling Obex was a big deal for me. It felt like handing over my baby that I built from the ground up,“ said Licalzi. “After chatting with several companies, I landed on Growable Ventures, and honestly, it all came down to my connection with Solomon. We’ve crossed paths in the pest control world for quite a while, and I’ve always respected how he operates his business and the success he’s had with his other acquisitions.“
