Industry manufacturer MGKhas received registration of its newest active ingredient, veratrine, from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The development adds a new mode of action to the company’s botanical portfolio.
Veratrine is a botanical active ingredient comprised of alkaloids extracted from the seed of the sabadilla
plant (Schoenocaulon officinale). According to the company, sabadilla alkaloids have unique insecticidal properties to control a wide range of pests and differ from other botanical or conventional insect control options.
“This is an exciting moment for MGK,” said Steve Gullickson, MGK president and CEO. “We couldn’t be more proud of our team for their hard work and creativity in making veratrine a reality. This new active
ingredient is a significant step forward in our commitment to provide pest control solutions that make a
real difference for our customers and the communities they serve.”
Veratrine is designed to support a broad range of pest management applications across MGK’s key
market segments. Specific formulations are currently under development to bring new botanical
solutions with an exclusive mode of action into professional pest control, animal production, vector control and crop protection markets.
