Dr. Stuart Mitchell, BCE, the resident entomologist at PestWest USA, will host a free webinar, “Rat Real Genius: Exploring the Secret Lives, Fears and Emotions of Mischievous Minds,” on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. Eastern.
The event will explore the hidden intelligence and emotional world of rodents. Dive deep into the cognitive flexibility, social bonding and emotional depth of three commensal rodents: the house mouse (Mus musculus), the roof rat (Rattus rattus) and the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus).
Attendees will discover how these “geniuses” navigate their environments with mental maps, experience empathy within their social groups and even exhibit behaviors akin to human cognitive dissonance. Also, take a closer look at the impact fear and play have on their survival strategies and how rodents adapt to shifting environments with a complexity that rivals some of nature’s most intelligent species.
