Nixalite celebrates its 75th anniversary

Nixalite of America, based in East Moline, Ill., is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025. The family-owned company, which is run by Cory and Jon Gellerstedt, brothers and current co-presidents, provides innovative and humane bird and animal control solutions.

“In 1950, our grandfather, Charles Kaufmann, revolutionized bird control by inventing the world’s first bird spike and founding Nixalite of America,“ the Gellerstedt’s said. “Just seven years later, on his deathbed, our mother, Marie, made a heartfelt promise to keep his vision alive. Through unwavering dedication, she upheld that promise and propelled the company forward. As we celebrate 75 years of innovation and excellence, we are honored to continue the Nixalite legacy and build upon the foundation our family has established.“

Founded in 1950, Nixalite manufactured and patented the world’s first bird spike, originally called Nixalite Porcupine Wire. Over the decades, Nixalite has progressed from a single product firm to a company that offers a wide variety of bird and animal control products. Included are two new models of bird spikes; E-Spike and Pigeon Spike Stainless. Several different types of bird netting and netting accessories are also available as well as tensioned perimeter and support cable hardware. According to the company, Nixalite’s wildlife control products offer assistance to combat a variety of pests including sparrows, starlings, pigeons, crows, vultures, black birds, geese, ducks, squirrels, rodents, bedbugs, mites, spiders, fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and more.

In 2007, Nixalite was named the U.S. Distributor and Service Center for IGEBA foggers, sprayers and aerosol generators. Nixalite has grown to be one of the primary sources for commercial fogging equipment in the U.S. and Canada.
