Dr. Shaku Nair, an associate in extension, community integrated pest management (IPM) at the Arizona Pest Management Center at the University of Arizona, will present “Tick Biology & Control” on Friday, Jan. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Eastern. The course will be presented and hosted by longtime pest marketing professional Ed DeMask.
The presentation will cover biology, behavior, important species and management of ticks — with an emphasis on public health, lawns and landscapes in community environments.
Ticks are an incredibly diverse group of blood-feeding parasitic arthropods and are found all over the world and vector the widest variety of pathogens. About 12 species are of public health or veterinary importance in the U.S. and will be discussed during the session.
Dr. Nair is an entomologist and a strong advocate of IPM strategies. She has expertise in IPM in natural and structural environments. Her primary responsibilities include translational research on pest management, community education, and facilitating IPM implementation and adoption in different community environments in Arizona such as schools, housing, turf and landscape, recreational areas and medical facilities.
The course costs $25 to attend, is approved in five states and at press time is pending more than 35 others. Learn more about the webinar and register here.
