Time is of the essence for a customer who has bed bugs. After conducting a thorough inspection to determine where to treat the infestation, grab your high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming will quickly reduce populations, especially when there are active clusters.

Concentrate on cracks, crevices, seams and folds of furniture and drapes. Set the vacuum on its highest setting and use its crevice attachment. This will be especially helpful where bed bugs might cling to fabric. Place tape over the vacuum nozzle when moving into different areas of the account so you don’t inadvertently spread the pests.

After you finish vacuuming, remove the bag immediately. Seal it with tape to ensure bed bugs that may still be alive don’t escape. You’ll also want to double-bag it into a second plastic bag, then seal and place it into an outside trash can. If you use a bagless vacuum, wash it out with hot, soapy water, then rinse after each use. Clean or replace the filter as needed.
