Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite! There are still PMPs performing their very first bed bug services because of the dramatic increase in reported infestations. Successful treatment relies on mastering the fundamentals.

First, conduct a detailed inspection of the affected and surrounding rooms. Diligently inspect mattress seams, seat cushions, floorboards, drapes and even children’s plush toys, as they are frequently slept with.

Treatment begins with thorough room preparation by clearing all obstructions and vacuuming with HEPA filtration. When treating, leave no stone — or chest of drawers — unturned. It’s vital to hit a bed bug where it lives and treat all hidden nooks and crannies.

Reinspection is a must, and a second treatment frequently will be required. This ensures successful treatment and brings peace of mind to your customers.

Finally, using green products registered in the 25(b) category, considered minimum risk through the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), when possible, also can help relieve any customer concerns
