The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), continues to make progress in advancing and promoting the pest control industry to consumers nationwide. Through innovative strategies, PPMA consistently engages the public and underscores the essential role of pest management professionals (PMPs) in safeguarding health, homes and businesses.
Over the years, PPMA has captivated consumers by using innovative campaigns, research projects and impactful messaging to emphasize the threats pests pose and the need for professional pest control. This year, we are focused on leveling up our existing resources and uncovering new best practices to expand our industry’s reach and influence.
Embracing data and research technologies
PPMA’s ongoing consumer research is a cornerstone of our strategy. To level up the impact of our current research programs, we are integrating cutting-edge data systems to gain deeper insights into consumer behavior, preferences and pest concerns. Our investment in real-time customer intelligence will help develop more targeted and effective marketing campaigns and provide deeper market insights that we can share with PPMA investor companies.
We’re also fielding an industry survey of PMPs about their recent field experiences with various pests, including bed bugs and invasive species. The insights gathered will allow us to share credible information with the public about the pests found in their regions.
Creating another large-scale campaign
As we continue to see success from past projects and hear consumer concerns about bed bugs in particular, we’re excited to preview our newest project. Like previous projects such as “Tiny Termite House,” archived online, this large-scale campaign will feature a bed bug-infested set design of a bedroom and shared living space. We will use the set to demonstrate how bed bugs behave and reveal their favorite hiding spots — underscoring their stealthiness and highlighting the necessity of professional intervention when these pests are present.
Tapping into commercial audiences
We’re also expanding our efforts for commercial market outreach. To ensure we develop the correct tools that best suit a variety of customer industries, PPMA will conduct new research to learn and understand exactly what commercial businesses are looking for when considering pest control needs and evaluating professional services.
From this research, we will create and share impactful messaging and educational resources to inform audiences about professional pest management’s vital role in protecting public health, commercial properties and brand reputation. These efforts will position PMPs as essential partners in effectively addressing pest issues and swiftly managing infestations to support business success.
The programs are just three of the strategies and tactics PPMA is employing to expand both our reach and impact while demonstrating the value of the professional pest control industry to consumers. This critical work is funded through voluntary financial investments, above and beyond NPMA dues, from pest control companies and members of the supplier community committed to promoting and protecting the industry and driving market growth.
PPMA’s ultimate goal is to see the entire industry thrive. I encourage all companies to join us in our effort to shape professional pest management and ensure its continued success. Learn more here.
