Running a profitable pest control company is hard, but creating an approved product list shouldn’t be. The consistent request by many pest management professionals (PMPs) is the desire for broad-spectrum products that can be used in multiple applications by technicians in the field.
In response, Neogen developed SureKill Evolve SC, in both pint and gallon sizes, to solve this need. SureKill Evolve SC features the active ingredient deltamethrin in a suspension concentrate. It provides up to 90 days of residual, ensuring control long after the initial application. While featuring a broad label targeting multiple sites and pests, including general household pests, mosquitos, and turf and ornamental application, SureKill Evolve SC reduces the need for multiple products across accounts.

In response to the outbreak of H5 Bird Flu, Avian Enterprises has developed a treatment program to protect against local outbreaks at food processing facilities, food service establishments, agricultural sites and public and private buildings. Avian Control Bird Repellent, when applied as either a spray of fog, has shown great effectiveness at significantly reducing bird presence and thus reducing the spread of H5 Bird Flu. Avian Control can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings, making it an ideal tool for pest management professionals (PMPs) to address this new menace.
Avian Control Bird Repellent is registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a biopesticide that uses methyl anthranilate (MA) as it active ingredient. While MA has been shown effective at repelling birds, it has an “Exemption from Tolerance” from the EPA that makes it ideal for use near people, pets and livestock. MA is also used in the flavor and fragrance industries.
In 2008, a Chicago area waste transfer station with a terrible bird problem called us at our affiliate company, Stone Soap Co., for help. The situation was so bad that employees had to wear raincoats and rain hats to protect themselves from bird droppings.
After many months of research and testing, we developed a revolutionary liquid bird repellent formula that, when sprayed or fogged, solved the bird problem. The birds were successfully driven away from the waste transfer station with no harm to the birds, the environment or the station personnel. We began to explore the potential for a repellent that would successfully repel birds without causing them harm. The formula was tested and refined and in 2009 we submitted Avian Control to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for registration. We received our registration in mid-2010.
Avian Enterprises, LLC (a Florida Company) owns the EPA registration and patent rights, as well as the marketing rights to the product Avian Control. The product continues to be manufactured under contract by Stone Soap Company in Sylvan Lake, Mich., and all orders are shipped from its Michigan facility.

About MGK
MGK’s stated mission is to make life healthier by creating responsible products that protect people and their environments from the impact of insects. Founded in 1902 and based in Minnesota, MGK sells insect control products throughout the world. Its business comprises several industries, including professional pest control, consumer home and pet products, animal health and crop protection.
Pest control is an industry largely made up of family businesses. Even some of the largest companies can trace their roots back to being family-owned and -operated. In the case of our business, we also consider our customers part of our family — and families bring us opportunities to do something special during difficult moments.
Key takeaways
Redefining family: Treating customers as family members creates an opportunity to offer support during their health or personal trials.
Empowerment without permission: Core values are only effective if employees are empowered to act on them immediately without waiting for managerial approval.
The ROI of kindness: Acts of service, such as free treatments for customers in crisis, build overwhelming gratitude and long-term brand loyalty.
“Servant-hearted” culture: True growth comes when an entire organization lives by a shared mission to serve one another above all else.
Doing the right thing
We are often made aware of the trials the people we work with are going through. When an employee loses a loved one, we send flowers and allow time for grieving. When a customer faces a significant health issue, we find ways to help.
Last month, a customer called to cancel her service because she had suffered a stroke and could no longer afford it. Omi Negron, one of our customer service representatives (CSRs), handled the call with extraordinary grace. Instead of processing a cancellation, Negron told the customer there would be no charge and that we would continue to provide service until the customer was well.
The power of a CSR’s kindness
All our phone calls are recorded. As I listened to this specific call, I had tears in my eyes. The customer was overwhelmed with gratitude and was crying, too, because of our CSR’s kind gesture. This wasn’t a scripted response; it was a human one.
We told the customer we would contact her again in six months just to check on her progress. These incidents define who we are as a company and reflect the true spirit of the pest control industry.
Empowering employees to lead
The most critical part of this interaction was what didn’t happen: Negron did not have to ask a supervisor for permission. She already knew we would be okay with her decision because it aligned with our identity.
A Culture of service
I hope that every ABC Home & Commercial Services employee knows that when we say one of our core values is “Servant Hearted,” we really mean it. God put us on Earth to serve one another, and I really believe pest control is one of those industries that allows us to do just that. By putting people first, we don’t just solve pest problems — we support our family.

About Kness Pest Defense
Per company history, the Ketch-All was invented by a young, widowed father of six, Austin Enos “Brick” Kness, in 1924. Mice were prevalent at the high school in which Kness was a custodian, and led him to the idea of the “box” trap. Kness, a Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer (Class of 2024), built the first trap from a square oilcan, a Tuxedo Tobacco can, a spring from a curtain rod, and the wood base of a crate. The first night he set his trap, he captured five mice.
He was elated and showed the teachers and his friends. He was encouraged to build others for his friends and to seek a patent. By 1927, Kness Mfg. Co. was formed to produce the KetchAll Automatic Mousetrap and another of Kness’ inventions, the RotoBow tree saw.

About the National Pest Management Association
The National Pest Management Association is a non-profit organization with more than 4,000 members. It was established in 1933 to support the pest management industry’s commitment to the protection of public health, food and property from the diseases and dangers of pests. The association has had many notable leaders over the years, including Pest Management Professional Hall of Famers Bill Buettner (Class of 1998), Dr. Ralph Heal (Class of 2003), Dr. Phil Spear (Class of 2004) and Bob Rosenberg (Class of 2013), to name just a few.
As demand for environmentally conscious pest control products continues to grow, Peritect 360 IC offers pest management professionals (PMPs) a solution. Peritect 360 IC is considered a FIFRA 25(b) minimum risk pesticide because its active ingredients — geraniol, sodium lauryl sulfate, cornmint oil and clove oil — have been determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to pose little to no risk to human health and the environment when used as directed.
In addition to its minimum-risk formulation, Peritect 360 IC is also effective and easy to use, the company says. Peritect 360 IC comes in an easy mixing liquid concentrate that can be used in fogging and automatic spray systems (except in Connecticut) for active infestations and maintenance of both crawling and flying insects. Labeled pests include flies, fleas, spiders, bed bugs (adult and nymph), mosquitoes, ants and cockroaches, and application sites include both indoor and outdoor settings. When used as directed, Peritect 360 IC offers a full perimeter of defense, safeguarding homes, businesses and public spaces from insect pests.
Peritect 360 IC is one of many pest control solutions from Liphatech that can help PMPs provide effective control while meeting the demands of the industry today. The entire portfolio of Liphatech’s intelligent, innovative solutions is supported by a knowledgeable technical support team with over 150 years of combined experience. Working together with PMPs, these experts can help evaluate situations, provide informed recommendations and help solve the toughest pest problems.
About Liphatech
With U.S. headquarters based in Milwaukee, Wis., Liphatech is a worldwide manufacturer of pest control products. It is considered to be the developer of three of the industry’s active ingredients: chlorophacinone, bromadiolone and difethialone. The company was founded in France in 1946 io develop anticoagulants for the treatment of heart patients. It developed chlorophacinone in the 1960s and branded it as Rozol, a family of products that includes grain and pelleted products for field and structural use, and a tracking powder for use in and around structures. In the 1970s, Liphatech developed bromadiolone, its original second-generation rodenticide active ingredient.
The innovations continued with the opening of its U.S. facility in 1987. Research there and in Europe resulted in the discovery of difethialone during the late 1980s, with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registration as an active ingredient in 1995.
Termites are among the most destructive and costly pests threatening American homes and businesses, and they operate almost entirely out of sight. With warmer temperatures on the horizon and the threat of termite activity intensifying, the Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which drives demand for professional services through innovative marketing programs, is calling on pest control companies nationwide to spread the word during Termite Awareness Week, taking place March 1–7, 2026.
Termites cause an estimated $6.8 billion in property damage each year in the United States, and these costs are rarely covered by homeowners’ insurance. Despite the enormous financial risk they pose, many homeowners remain unaware of the warning signs of an infestation until significant structural damage has already occurred. Termite Awareness Week exists to change that, and the Alliance is, urging every corner of the pest control industry to use this moment to educate, engage and empower consumers.
“Termites don’t announce themselves – they work silently and relentlessly. By the time homeowners notice the damage, the cost of repairs can be devastating,” said Alliance Executive Director Jim Fredericks, in a news release. “Termite Awareness Week is one of our most important annual opportunities to put this issue front and center. We’re urging every corner of the pest control industry to use this moment to educate, engage and help homeowners understand that professional termite protection is not an expense, it’s an investment.”
The Alliance is encouraging pest control companies to make the most of Termite Awareness Week by:
Sharing termite-focused content across their digital platforms throughout the week and using #TermiteAwarenessWeek to join the broader industry conversation and connect homeowners with useful information.
Resharing expert content from @PestWorld on Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube and @PestWorldOfficial on Instagram to extend reach and reinforce consumer education.
Accessing the exclusive Termite Awareness Week marketing toolkit available to Mainframe subscribers on AllianceMainframe.org, which includes a customizable press release, social media posts, infographics, high-resolution images, video content and more.
“When we come together around initiatives like Termite Awareness Week, our impact is multiplied,” said Fredericks. “Each post shared, each homeowner educated, each inspection completed adds up to a stronger, more trusted industry.”

Nisus, an industry leader in sustainable pest control and structural protection solutions, announced today that Pro-Shield Nsulation is now available in California. Pro-Shield is an insecticide that is registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It doesn’t just insulate structures, but also protects them against termites, cockroaches, ants, crickets and other labeled pests.
Pro-Shield Nsulation offers another level of protection against structure-destroying pests. As blown-in insulation installed by licensedpest management professionals (PMPs) that combats pests commonly found in attics, wall voids and crawlspaces, it also offers superior energy efficiency and soundproofing. With 14.72 percent orthoboric acid blended into the cellulose fill, Pro-Shield is an ideal complement to industry staples such as Bora-Care and Tim-bor, the borate-based termiticidal, fungicidal and insecticidal products that are long-trusted entries in the company’s portfolio. This innovative solution offers PMPs an additional revenue stream and serves as a smarter way for homeowners to safeguard their homes.
Nisus considers the addition of the product to be a natural expansion to its lineup. Made with cellulose that is 100 percent recycled and manufactured with up to 50 percent renewable energy, Pro-Shield meets Nisus’ exacting sustainability standards while fulfilling the needs of both PMPs and end-users.
“Pro-Shield is not your average insulation,” Harry Bryan, Nisus VP of business development for Nisus Corporation, said in a news release. “It’s not a treated article — it’s a pesticide in and of itself. Pro-Shield combines the proven power of borates with the insulation properties of cellulose, offering a multi-layered defense system that does more than just keep the home warm — it helps protect one of your biggest investments from hidden threats.”
Pro-Shield is the next step of many for Nisus as it continues to enhance its already robust structural protection offerings. Jim Sparks, director of product sales for Nisus, noted in the news release, “Our nationwide sales and training team provides exceptional education on the ins and outs of defending property from pests and other threats. PMPs can present an entire roster of home protection strategies to builders and homeowners. Our team will demonstrate new revenue streams from the crawl space to the attic.”
Nisus President and CEO Lee Barrett agrees, adding in the news release, “PMPs are critical to the defense of public and private property from wood-destroying organisms. We are excited to offer them an exciting new way to do that, especially with a product that helps them to do so sustainably and effectively while providing their customers with a new service that brings peace of mind. Our team is always available to answer any questions about Pro-Shield Nsulation — whether it’s about installation best practices or label specifics. We’re here to support our fellow industry professionals every step of the way.”

As Valentine’s Day chocolates, sweets, and candy gifts pile up in kitchens and pantries across the US, the pest control experts at Excel Pest Services are warning homeowners that leftover treats could be doing more harm than good.
Improperly stored chocolate and candy can quickly attract rodents and insects, increasing the risk of infestations in the weeks after Valentine’s Day, when many people forget about half-eaten boxes and novelty sweets.
“Chocolate and sugary candy are some of the most attractive food sources you can leave out,” says Nick Ferrante Jr., ACE at Excel Pest Services, in a news release. “Once pests find an easy food supply in a pantry or cupboard, they’ll keep coming back, and they won’t stop at the candy.”
With colder weather still pushing pests indoors and food sources outside becoming scarce, Ferrante says Valentine’s leftovers often become an unexpected trigger for pest problems.
Eliminate these mistakes to avoid pests
1. Leaving opened chocolate in cardboard packaging
Cardboard is among the least protective materials when combating pests like rodents, which can chew through it within minutes, and insects that utilize the structure of the box to stay hidden while helping themselves to a snack.
“With Valentine’s chocolate, packaging is usually opened and handled multiple times,” Ferrante added in a release. “That makes minor access points harder to spot, especially underneath or along seams. Once scent residue is left behind, pests will continue returning to the same location.”
2. Storing sweets in cupboards that aren’t disturbed daily
Thinking of using a high shelf or even a darkened kitchen cabinet? These are places where it is easy to forget about your Valentine’s candy and provide lengthened periods of darkness, warmth and stability, making it the perfect spot for pests to hide out.
“Rodents will memorise food locations,” Ferrante said. “If a food source remains available over multiple nights, they adjust their movement patterns to revisit it regularly. At that point, activity often escalates from foraging to nesting nearby to reduce travel distance.”
3. Assuming sealed gift packaging is pest-proof
While the elaborate packaging of candies may be pretty, it isn’t protective. Foil trays, thin plastic wraps, and decorative tins slow pests down but don’t prevent access. Rodents can smell chocolate through packaging and will gnaw directly through weaker points, while ants and cockroaches exploit microscopic gaps or condensation buildup.
“We frequently trace infestations back to gift packaging that homeowners believed was sealed,” Ferrante said. “In reality, it only delayed access, not prevented it.
4. Ignoring melted or compromised chocolate
It is so easy to forget about or get tired of chocolates. However, when left for too long, chocolates soften and reharden, providing a stronger odor compound which can seep into shelf liners and packaging. Essentially leaving a marker for pests to navigate back to.
“From a detection standpoint, compromised chocolate is significantly more attractive,” Ferrante noted. “Even after the chocolate itself is removed, residue can continue drawing pests back to the same location.”
5. Leaving candy-related waste inside overnight
Empty wrappers, trays, and boxes retain food scent long after the chocolate is gone. When these are left in indoor trash bins, especially overnight, they act as scent trails that guide pests deeper into kitchens and pantries.
“Once pests associate a specific area with sugar or fat sources, they don’t stop at the trash,” Ferrante warns. “They begin exploring surrounding cupboards, walls, and voids, looking for additional food or nesting opportunities.”
What can customers do to stay safe?
To reduce risk, Excel Pest Services advises homeowners to:
Transfer chocolate out of original packaging into airtight glass or hard plastic containers
Inspect pantry shelving for crumbs, residue, or packaging damage
Remove uneaten Valentine’s sweets promptly, rather than storing them indefinitely
Seal indoor trash tightly and dispose of it regularly, especially after gift unwrapping
Monitor for early warning signs, including gnaw marks, grease trails, ants, or damaged packaging
“Chocolate is a high-value food source for both rodents and insects,” Ferrante says. “When it’s left accessible, it increases the likelihood of ongoing activity rather than one-off sightings.”
Excel Pest Services experts recommend a thorough post-Valentine’s pantry check as part of seasonal pest prevention, particularly while colder weather continues to push pests indoors.
