What is the key to successful ant control?

Here’s what some PMP Magazine contributors say is the key to successful ant control:

Stuart Aust: Identify what type of ant you are treating, and locate where the ant colony is nesting.

Dr. Austin Frishman: Inspection, identification, locating trails and/or nests, treatment, pest proofing, and following up.

Paul Hardy: Search out the source (SOS), identify the ants, thoroughly inspect, and become a well-trained technician.

Ray Johnson: First, identify the ant. Second, follow their trails; the trails will reveal where they are coming from and where they are going. Third, study their habits and then use the prescribed control measures from industry sources. Fourth, follow up.

Dr. Doug Mampe: Know what species you are dealing with, because that will determine what bait to use and where the nest is probably located so it can be treated, if necessary.

Frank Meek: Don’t let assumptions get you. You may identify the ant, treat the area and think you solved the issue for your client — but three months later, they call you back for ants. You assume it is the same ant, so you provide the same treatment. This time, the treatment fails because it’s a different ant species.

Kurt Scherzinger: Not treating the obvious areas where you see ants. You need to find the colony, even though sometimes you may find yourself on your hands and knees going through a yard.

Pete Schopen: Inspection is the key to any pest issue, but especially ants.

MarkSheperdigian: Proper identification.
