Nick Vasko, service manager at Pestco Professional Services, earned the Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE) designation.

The ACE certification recognizes pest management professionals with strong experience in insect-related work and whose training in entomology has been achieved through continuing education, self-study and on-the-job experience. The Entomological Society of America administers the ACE program.

“I’ve been in the industry for 20 years and adding the ACE credential seemed to be the next logical step in my career,” Vasko says. “One of the best parts of being in the industry is learning new things. I hope to help others achieve their ACE in the future.”

Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., Pestco has been providing facility hygiene services since 1948. According to the company, it is the nation’s only commercial service firm of its kind that manufactures the products it uses. According to the company, these products include pest control solutions, air fresheners, odor control products, ambient scent systems, fragrances, washroom hygiene products and more are all made locally in its 80,000 sq. ft. facility.

“We are very proud of Nick and his dedication to the pest management industry,” said Bob Wiemer, general manager at Pestco. “It means a lot to have nationally-recognized, certified experts as part of Pestco.”

To achieve ACE status, a pest-control operator must have a minimum of five years of verifiable pest management experience, the knowledge and ability to pass a rigorous test on insect pest control, a current U.S. pesticide applicators license, and a willingness to adhere to the ACE Code of Ethics.

The ACE examination includes questions about basic entomology; insect identification, life cycles, and control measures; health impacts of pests; ecological principles pertaining to pest control; environmental impacts related to pest control; integrated pest management (IPM); pesticide safety and health issues; pesticide technology and resources; organizations and associations of significance to the pest control industry; and laws and regulations affecting the industry.
