Minimize mosquito breeding sites

Mosquito barrier treatments continue to be a growth opportunity, particularly with consumers at home more and enjoying the outdoors more. Due to the nature of the pest and consumer expectations, the service interval generally will need to be shorter than that for typical perimeter pest control. With the cost of a service call, it makes sense to optimize product selection and methodologies to extend the service interval as long as possible.

Mosquitoes can breed in just about any chronically damp location, such as under decks and porches, in clogged gutters and drains, in objects that can hold water, and in areas of heavy vegetation. Leave homeowners a checklist of common steps to minimize breeding sites.

Botanicals can have excellent repellency and larvicidal activity, so they are ideal for treating potential breeding sites. Use a granule or wettable dust form to extend residual.

For general barrier application, consider tank mixing a capsule suspension pyrethroid with an appropriately labeled botanical. This combination can provide a synergistic effect that will extend residual protection. Integrate trapping to further enhance treatment effectiveness.
