Protect wood against termites

One of the most difficult aspects of termite control is finding and targeting these destructive pests within the wood. Colonies can go unnoticed for long periods before causing enough damage to be detected. Homeowners often do not realize just how much destruction can be caused by termites, and more time passes before professional treatments can be performed.

Focusing on the long-term protection of wood should be a top priority. Borate wood preservatives, for example, prevent termites from feeding on wood when applied as a new construction or post-construction treatment, and can stop termites from feeding when applied as a remedial treatment for active infestations.

Another, often-overlooked aspect of wood protection is that unless the conducive conditions are corrected and the wood is protected, the dry tunnels vacated by termites can be reinfested — or lead to infestations of other wood-destroying organisms (WDO), such as carpenter ants, wood-boring beetles, drywood termites and wood decay fungi. Protect the wood, and all is good.
