Set the tone with your leadership meetings

One of the most effective ways to align an organization is to bring leaders together with purpose. A well-designed leadership meeting is more than an event — it is a best-practice tool for strengthening culture, sharpening messaging and translating strategy into action.

That intention was at the center of Truly Nolen Pest Control’s recent managers meeting, held this year at our home office in Tucson, Ariz. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, but more importantly, the impact has extended well beyond the meeting itself. That is the true measure of success. An upfront investment of time and resources only matters if it creates momentum afterward — when leaders return to their teams aligned, energized and clear on expectations. The meeting sets the tone, but leadership is ultimately demonstrated in what follows: mindset, follow-through and consistency in daily decisions.

Safety standard reinforcement

With that foundation in place, we focused first on what matters most. Safety standards must be reinforced at every opportunity. We kicked off with a safety presentation by Mark Ringlstetter, VP of technical services & loss control, followed by Melanie Koskey, insurance and technical admin, that resonated deeply because it connected work to to the people we go home to and the people our teams go home to as well. Keeping safety as our No. 1 priority sends a clear and consistent cultural message: People come first, always.

Culture and discipline

From there, the conversation expanded into how we think and lead. Strong culture requires both inspiration and discipline. Leaders were challenged with a simple but powerful question: What if? By encouraging curiosity, possibility and forward thinking — while maintaining accountability and the “Yellow Standard,” our measure of quality — the message was clear. Progress happens when imagination is paired with ownership.

Beyond the formal sessions, one of the most meaningful aspects of the meeting was simply being together in person. While agendas and presentations matter, it is often the moments between meetings where connections are strengthened and shared experiences take root.

Those human interactions are a powerful and sometimes underestimated, driver of culture. In fact, two of our event vendors, Envu and Veseris, were kind enough to split the buyout of Roadies (a local Tucson bowling gastropub). We thank these two vendors, along with BASF, SiteOne, Ensystex and the many others in the industry who partnered with us to showcase everything from cutting-edge technology and creative elements to vehicles and pest control products.

Ultimately, bringing leaders together with intention is one of the most effective ways to shape and sustain an organization’s culture. When meetings reinforce priorities, challenge thinking, encourage peer learning and translate strategy into action, they become catalysts rather than check-the-box events. We are proud of the momentum created this year, and look forward to building on it again next year.
