On the road again: PMPs show off their work vehicles

Inspired by PMP columnist Ray Johnson’s recent riffs on his “rolling billboards” and some truck photos we published in 1983, we put a call out on Facebook for reader photos a few weeks back. Boy, did you ever deliver. While we regret we can’t publish them all, here are just a few to whet your appetite — and who knows? If more readers send in more awesome vehicle photos, we might just go on the road again, again.

Brent Towle, owner of Spectrum Pest Control, Kenosha, Wis., is actually getting rid of this 2012 Ram Express 4×4 with Hemi, because he needs more space in his vehicle for equipment. But the eye-catcher, complete with Transformers icon on the grille, will always be remembered fondly: “I tracked the website based on keyed in vs Google. Every time I was on the road, our web traffic would double. Daily, I would have people stopping and taking pictures.” For his next vehicle, he plans to have a vehicle wrap design contest among customers — the grand prize being a year’s worth of free service.

Sara Daly, co-owner of Daly Termite & Pest Management, Bryn Mawr, Pa., says this 2013 Toyota Tacoma is one of four in the fleet. It is driven by the full-time technician she and her husband, Joe Daly, added since they bought the business from Joe’s Uncle Jim last August. Jim Daly started the company in 2004, and there are two other Tacomas plus a termite truck, a Nissan Frontier, on the road.

Ed Mills, owner of Ed’s Dead Bug Pest Control, Olympia, Wash., shows off his 2006 Chevy Colorado and his lab coat.

Mark Whorton, Owens Cross Roads, Ala., loves “The Old Fart,” aka a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger. He bought it from his uncle when he was 11, courted his wife in it in high school, and last year, when he decided to leave the family body shop business to open Whorton’s Pest Control, he put his company logo on it. “It’s a $30,000 business card, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” says Whorton, who can be seen in his classic everywhere from the drag strip to parades to the grocery store — and of course, pest inspections.

Zach Pennington, director of operations for Scope Pest Services, Holiday, Fla., posted a pic of his commercial cargo van, a 2017 Nissan NV200.

Chris Jones, owner of Bio-Chem Exterminating, Phoenix, Ariz., notes that the graphics on his 2017 Dodge Ram, plus three other vehicles in his fleet, are of his own design.
