Please take a minute to answer our latest one-question poll on this topic and let us what you’re bring to the new year: Reader poll: What do you predict will be a pest- or business-related trend in 2024?

PMP’s Editorial Advisory Board and Regular Contributors

Jerry Schappert, ACE: “More pest management professionals (PMPs) will be using smart devices, and there will be new products and equipment as a result.”

Doug Foster

Doug Foster: “More PMPs will raise their prices. Faced with rising costs from every angle, PMPs really have no choice, but it’s actually going to have a positive impact on our industry.”

Paul Hardy: “We will continue to have a problem with hiring and keeping employees, resulting from government programs, corporate growth, profit-taking and subpar training.”

Kurt Scherzinger, ACE: “We will see another heavy stinging insect year like we did this year. The number of stinging insects we saw — and are still seeing in late 2023 — shows they will be ready again to make an even bigger impact in 2024.”

Sheri Spencer Bachman

Sheri Spencer Bachman: “Because of the current hiring challenges, more businesses are going to change their pest control service frequency from quarterly to tri-annual. Not only will this allow PMPs to get more production done, requiring fewer team members, it also will increase the profitability of pest control businesses.”

Foster Brusca: “In 2024, I believe artificial intelligence (AI) will become more commonplace as more companies start to integrate the technology for their business needs. AI has some great capabilities for the pest control industry, from marketing to predicting pest trends. It’s not going away, so PMPs are going to need to figure out a way to use it correctly and effectively.”

Mark Sheperdigian, BCE: “Thanks to changes in rodent behavior and the specter of changing regulations, companies will prepare for removing rodent control from regular service in favor of rodent-specific programs.”
