Selecting the proper rodent station is just as important as the bait you choose to apply. We must do everything in our power to target the rodents we’ve been hired to control. This includes proper inspections and identification, using mechanical and exclusion methods when applicable, and proper bait station selection and placement.

Becoming familiar with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) tier system for rodent stations is a great start to selecting the appropriate station for each application. There are four rankings, with Tier 1 being the most tamper-resistant, to Tier 4 being the least tamper-resistant:

  • Tier 1: Tamper-resistant for children and dogs, weather-resistant, and for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Tier 2: Tamper-resistant for children and dogs, not weather-resistant, for indoor use only.
  • Tier 3: Tamper-resistant for children only, and indoor use only.
  • Tier 4: Primarily one-time indoor use only, and usually not recommended for professional use.

If you are unfamiliar with the tier rating on the stations you use, contact the manufacturer or your local distribution representative to learn more.
