The Jonesboro, Ark., branch of Orkin Pest Control recently collaborated with Northeast Arkansas Humane Society (NEAHS) to raise money for animal protection against mosquito-borne illnesses, such as heartworm and parasitic, viral and bacterial infections.
The Paws for Pets food and supply drive on Friday, May 26, was a success, according to Stephanie Jones, administrative assistant at the Orkin branch. By the end of the event, enough supplies were collected to fill the NEAHS van. Supplies included peanut butter, pet food, paper towels, water bottles, laundry detergent, bleach and other cleaning supplies.
Money was also collected for a local animal shelter based in Jonesboro, where Orkin provides free mosquito services for the building.
Every year, the Orkin branch hosts two drives to give back to the community. Along with the pet food drive on May 26, another drive will benefit the local food bank.
“We are looking to add a third community event this year,” Jones said. “We believe in giving back to the community that has been so supportive of us and to build a culture of awareness of the needs of others among our own employees by planning the events during paid working hours.”
