In2Care: Mosquito Station

Introduced in 2017, the patented In2Care Mosquito Station is made of durable, recycled plastic and uses water with an odor lure to attract egg-laying Aedes and Culex mosquito species. Once inside, the mosquitoes contact the specially treated gauze near the water surface and become contaminated with a larvicide and a fungus. This exclusive “autodissemination” technique exploits the fact that Aedes and Culex mosquito species like to divide their eggs over multiple sites. By letting them fly out of the station while carrying larvicide on their legs, they transport the larvicide and contaminate several breeding sites around the station.

The In2Care Mosquito Station is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). At press time, it is registered in all states except Alaska. The stations can be placed and then maintained every four weeks using refill sachets. They can be used as a standalone or in combination with other mosquito control methods. Each station features:

• A durable 5-liter water reservoir
• A lid with click-on mechanism
• A floater to carry the gauze strip
• Green time indicator cap (used as a servicing reminder)
• Optional securing tools
• Refill sachets (gauze, bioactives and attractant tablets)

The stations are currently available in the US from Veseris, Target Specialty Products and SiteOne Landscape Supply. A weekly webinar, “In2Care Stewardship Course: Deployment, Servicing and Commercialization of the In2Care Mosquito Station” is available for new users as well as a refresher course for seasoned users.
