July FMC webinar focuses on pest identification

FMC’s latest installment of the FMC True Champions First Friday webinar series, titled “Pest Identification,” will review the principles of arthropod morphology and the basics of insect identification. It will take place July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern hosted by Brian Mount, BCE — technically the second Friday of the month, because of the July Fourth holiday. The course will cover a broad selection of pests, their general appearance and characters useful in their identification. With each pest discussed, the course will zero in on control considerations and pest biology.

Brian Mount

Mount received his master’s degree in entomology May 2007 from the University of Nebraska with a focus in urban entomology after he completed an undergraduate degree in business administration/management at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., in May 1994. Mount then received his Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) designation in 2007.

Mount began working in the pest control industry in 1995 through a management training program for a large pest control company where he spent 2 years. He then moved to become the sales and training manager for a smaller company where he spent 3 years doing hands-on pest and termite work. From 2000-2010, Mount worked for FMC in a technical service role. His varied experiences with FMC have given him a unique insight into the types of issues, both positive and negative, that pest professionals face daily.

From 2006-2010, Mount broadened his responsibilities as a field technical service representative for the Western U.S. where he was responsible for working insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. This gave him the opportunity to work with university researchers on to develop new product trials, write protocol, seek advice and create relationships across the Western U.S. From 2011-2013, Mount took on the role of turf market specialist in Florida.

Mount now serves as the urban product development lead at FMC Professional Solutions.

As with all FMC First Friday webinars, “Pest Identification ” is free to attend; however, only FMC True Champions members can receive continuing education unit (CEU) credits.
