Plunkett’s Pest Control acquires family-owned McKinzie Pest Control

Minneapolis, Minn.-based Plunkett’s Pest Control acquired McKinzie Pest Control, a family-owned business with regional offices in Manhattan and Emporia, Kan. The acquisition represents a significant milestone for Plunkett’s Pest Control as the company expands its presence in Kansas.

“We are thrilled to welcome McKinzie Pest Control to the Plunkett’s family,” Aly Silva Mulgrew, president of Plunkett’s, said in a news release. “McKinzie Pest Control has a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional service, and we are committed to upholding that tradition. This acquisition allows us to expand our reach and better serve customers throughout Kansas.”

Steve and Kayla McKinzie, McKinzie Pest Control owners, expressed their confidence in the new owner of their business. According to the owners, they chose Plunkett’s based on its values and commitment to treating customers and employees with respect, courtesy and dignity.

McKinzie Pest Control was founded in 1960 by Steve’s father, Vernon McKinzie, BCE, who is a Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer (Class of 2013).

Steve, current president and CEO, began working for the company while in high school and joined the firm full-time in 1980 after earning a degree in biology and business from Emporia State University. He has experience in every role of the business, including a short time as a janitor before working his way up to his current leadership position. Steve served twice as president of the KPCA and chaired its government affairs committee.
