Tekko Pro contains two insect growth regulators (IGRs): pyriproxyfen and novaluron. IGRs are insecticides that disrupt the completion of the insect’s life cycle. Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone analog and novaluron is a chitin synthesis inhibitor. These products work in very different ways with two distinct modes of action.
Pyriproxyfen mimics a natural hormone in insects and disrupts their growth. Pyriproxyfen affects mostly young insects and eggs, preventing larvae from developing into adulthood and thus rendering them unable to reproduce.
Novaluron inhibits insects from forming chitin, an important component in the exoskeletons of insects, affecting immature insects. They cannot properly molt due to inhibition of the synthesis of a new cuticle. Novaluron can affect insects every time they complete the molting process. When combined, these products provide not only developmental disruption but also cause death due to improper molting.
Tekko Pro can be used indoors and outdoors, and it is labeled for many pests, including mosquitoes, fleas, crickets, ticks, ants, cockroaches, stored product pests and other flying insect pests, such as house flies.
